Spring returns and so does Suona francese.

Ahead of the official presentation of the seventh edition of the French music festival on March 21 at Palazzo Farnese, the renowned Paris Rockin’ Festival arrives in Rome. This year, the event will be held at Lanificio 159 on Via di Pietralata, featuring a three-day marathon focused on eclectic musical scenes: electronic, rock, hip-hop, and avant-garde.

After five years of concerts across various venues in Rome and Italy, Paris Rockin’ transforms into a festival from March 20 to 22, 2014, showcasing a diverse array of both established and emerging artists representing the creative future of Paris. The festival will also feature French cuisine, video creations, and exhibitions.

Following this, Suona francese will continue over a three-month period (until June 30) in various other Italian locations, with a schedule primarily dedicated to young talents and new sounds, including classic and contemporary music, fostering a musical dialogue between Italy and France.

PARIS ROCKIN’ FESTIVAL

After five years of concerts in various locations in Rome and Italy, Paris Rockin’ evolves into the Paris Rockin’ Festival: three days dedicated to the discovery of new sounds in electronic music at Lanificio, a Roman cultural hub active in the production and organization of numerous artistic and cultural activities.

On Thursday, March 20, in collaboration with Natural Gizmo (Lanificio’s monthly electronic music concert series), we present the pop-soul live performance of Freddy McQuinn, electro-rock fusion by Jamaica, and the oriental acid house of Acid Arab in a DJ set.

Friday, March 21, focuses on the Parisian club scene with maestro Agoria, the intimate soundscapes of Rone, the Balkan French-touch of Nôze, and the house-dubstep of Bambounou.

Saturday, March 22, showcases the synergies between Paris and Rome, expanding into other arts with an exhibition/competition of Italian artists on the theme of Paris, organized in collaboration with Aracne – Arti per la Città, offering French recipes from Lanificio Cucina, and a video mapping dedicated to Paris. The day will feature the promising new generation of French producers (Stwo, Everydayz, Dream Koala…) and the Romans Equohm and Massimo Voci (resident DJ of Paris Rockin’), a constant presence throughout the festival.

Paris Rockin’ Festival aims to be a showcase of French culture with music (live and DJ sets) as the main vector, exploring collaborations between Paris and Rome in art, video art, and cuisine.

ACID ARAB Link:

http://www.facebook.com/acidarab

Acid Arab is a project by Guido Minisky and Hervé Carvalho (residents of the Parisian club Chez Moune) aiming to unite two styles of dance music: the house of Western clubs and the ancestral music of the East. The bridge is acid-house, ghetto music with saturated sounds and rhythmic richness that brings dancers into a trance, perfectly aligning with the ‘underground’ recordings of the Maghreb, Turkey, and the Middle East. They are signed to the prestigious Versatile label, which has released two EPs and an LP with collaborations from Omar Souleyman, Pilooski, I:Cube, Turzi, Legowelt, Crackboy…

FREDDY MCQUINN

Freddy McQuinn is a Parisian singer, musician, and producer who lived in London for over 15 years before moving to Rome a few years ago. After the success of his debut album ‘Exile On Brick Lane’, he released his second album ‘Positive Spin’ in 2013, featuring many excellent musicians (Seb Martel, Sandra Nkake, Fixi, Cyril Atef…). Freddy McQuinn’s music is 100% organic, reflecting his eclectic musicality: underground blues, old-school ballads, rock-funk grooves. These musical styles are masterfully blended to create a unique atmosphere that comes alive on stage with his presence.

JAMAICA

The French band Jamaica returns in 2014 with a new album ‘Ventura’ released on March 31 by Coop-Music. Three years after their debut “No Problem” produced by Xavier De Rosnay of Justice, the band has matured significantly thanks to an intense period of concerts worldwide and long studio sessions. ‘Ventura’ was produced in Los Angeles with Peter Franco (Daft Punk – Random Access Memories) at his studio on ‘Ventura Boulevard’ and finalized in Paris with Laurent d’Herbencourt (Phoenix – Bankrupt), featuring contributions from Tunde Adebimpe of TV on the Radio and Chris Caswell (Paul Williams) on keyboards.

MASSIMO VOCI (also on 21/03 and 22/03)

Massimo Voci, resident DJ of Paris Rockin’ since 2009, is one of the most active on the Roman scene. Label Manager of Black Moka Records, co-founder of U-FM Radio, he also works for Radio Capital, hosts the Club Moka show on m2o, and DJs for ‘Webnotte’ on Repubblica TV. From soul to electronic, dubstep to minimal, he always captures the pulse of a night, becoming one of the most appreciated DJs on the Roman scene.
