About the new names:
With Paul Kalkbrenner we are
adding a real biggie to I Love Techno’s already impressive bill.
Kalkbrenner is an established superstar in the world of techno. He went
global with “Sky and Sand” and his name alone is enough to fill huge
concert halls, like Antwerp’s Lotto Arena last year. Fellow German, Loco Dice,
is something of a figurehead for the contemporary house and techno
scene, thanks to his Desolat label. He also releases hits on Richie
Hawtin’s M-nus label and Sven Väth’s Cocoon. Last year the highly
influential Resident Advisor put him at number 8 in the world’s top 100
DJs. Pascal Arbez-Nicolas from France, aka Vitalic,
will be doing a live set at I Love Techno. Unusually for him he will be
staying behind the turntables. Vitalic is also known as the “Wagner of
Rave”. An accolade he has won for his steamy mix of electro, disco and
techno, and his all time classic “La Rock”. Another classic is “Erotic
Discourse” by Paul Woolford aka Bobby Peru. For years
now Woolford has been in residence at Space in Ibiza. He currently
releases his work through labels like Carl Craig’s Planet E label and
Scuba’s Hotflush Recordings. And there will be a South American presence
at I Love Techno 2014. Among his fans Pfirter, from Argentina, can count Marcel Dettman, Len Faki and Speedy J. In the shape of Etienne De Crécy, aka Superdiscount 3,
I Love Techno has managed to snare one of the key figures in house
music. The house revival has taken root and is still growing. In 1994 De
Crécy joined Air and Alex Gopher to create the “French Touch”. Super
Discount 2, involving Cassius, followed in 2004. De Crécy still has his
edge, as we saw from his excellent set at Pukkelpop 2014. Superdiscount 3
comes out in October. New and on the verge of breakthrough are Gorgon City
from England. Their debut album contains a mix of house, garage, bass
music and two step. It is due in early October on the hip Black Butter
Records label, which is also home to Rudimental and Clean Bandit. The
future is looking good for Ten Walls. The alter ego of Marijus
Adomaitis, aka Mario Basanov, scored a hat-trick of dance anthems with
the singles “Gotham”, “Requiem” and “Walking With Elephants”. I Love
Techno has always made room for young talent. This year is no different.
At just 16 Happa has already racked up a fine set of
credentials with remixes for Four Tet, Jon Hopkins and The xx. And our
own home-grown talent, Mumbai Science, is on the cusp
of an international breakthrough. Their debut album “Déjà vu”, issued by
Lektroluv Records, features contributions from Peaches, Phuture &
Gustaphe by Hercules and Love Affair. Top magazine Mixmag was
exceptionally quick to report that this album is a “very strong
contender for the best electro LP of the year”. Raving George is going international by releasing through Crux Records and Bad Life. Her fellow artist at Studio Brussel, Koen Galle aka Kong, is the man behind Belgium’s 22Tracks. He partners Grats to run the excellent ensemble label and organises all the festivities. A. Brehme
is a regular at the Fuse club. Along with Peter Van Hoesen he is a
co-resident at the Brussels Sunday afternoon concept, Technoon.
About the I Love Techno festival:
Since it started in 1995, I Love Techno has had
its finger on the pulse of dance. Time and again the festival offers up a
relevant, exciting menu of techno, house, electro and more. On one
night of the year Flanders Expo becomes the biggest club in Belgium.
35,000 festival-goers descend on this Mecca of electronic music from all
directions. This year I Love Techno will be held on Saturday 8 November
in Flanders Expo in Ghent (Belgium). Tickets for I Love Techno 2014 are
available at ilovetechno.be
